By default, when you create a new subsite, all of the same permissions from the parent site are applied to the new subsite. In certain cases it may be necessary to restrict users to the new subsite. If you've created a subsite and want to change its permissions so that only select users can access the subsite instead of all users from the parent site, you need to stop the inheritance of permissions.
You will require the necessary permissions to complete these steps. If you do not have the correct permissions, contact your DHQ Administrator for further assistance.
NOTE: You are able to lock yourself out of a subsite if you remove your own security permissions. Only someone in the remaining security set or a site collection administrator can correct the issue.
- Go to the subsite, then click Site Actions, then Site Settings.
2. In the first column, click People and Groups.

3.Click Settings then Set Up Groups.

4.For each section, select Create a new group, add users as needed, then click OK.

5. Click Site Permissions on left.

6. Click Actions then Edit Permissions. Click OK on the popup window

7.Click New.

8. In the Add Users box, select one of the new security groups you created. In Give Permissions section, select Give users permission directly and select the correct option for your group. Visitors should be Read, Members should be Contribute and Owners should be Full Control. Send E-Mail is your preference. Click OK.

8.After you have added each new group, click the checkbox next to the groups you do not want in this site, probably the parent site’s security groups, then click Actions and Remove User Permissions
